Naqadian Expansion: A review of the question based on the Necropolis of Kom el-Khilgan

The monograph of the Kom el-Khilgan necropolis has now been completed and the manuscript has been submitted to the publisher. The many years separating the end of the excavations in 2006 from the completion of the publication in 2018 provided an opportunity for deeper reflection on the social acceleration trends that characterise the 4th millennium BCE. The intent of this article is to reconsider the now very controversial trend of “ Naqadian expansion” in light of observations made at Kom el-Khilgan.
La monographie de la nécropole de Kom el-Khilgan est achevée. Le manuscrit a été remis à l’éditeur. Les longues années qui ont séparé la fin des fouilles, en 2006, de l’achèvement de la publication en 2018, ont permis de nourrir une réflexion plus approfondie sur les phénomènes d’accélération sociale qui caractérisent le IVe millénaire avant notre ère et de reconsidérer, à la lumière des observations faites à Kom el-Khilgan, le phénomène aujourd’hui très discuté de «l’expansion naqadienne » .
